Doorstop Adventures Part 2 ~ Clovelly

Clovelly is such a special place and perfect for a day trip during your stay. It lies approx. 50 mins to the north west of us on the North Devon Coast. Once owned by The Queen, it's picturesque working harbour and steep cobbled streets add to its overall charm. This pretty fishing village dates back to the Iron age where a settlement was sited towards the northwest of the village. Interestingly Clovelly is still privately owned and has only been associated with three families in over 800 years! Closed to vehicular traffic due to its incredibly steep streets (the main street descends 400ft to the pier) everything is brought to and from the village via sledges or donkeys!

Park your car in the designated car park and head for the visitor centre to explore everything the village has to offer. You are spoilt for choice from Clovelly Court Gardens (and its impressive kitchen gardens), to organised charter boat trips along the beautiful coastline (taking in stunning waterfalls & perhaps a dolphin or two!). Or just meander the main street and have a cream tea!

It really is so pretty.
